I dont know what it is about being a government official that makes people hate you so much.
It doesn’t make sense to me how people vote for a candidate to become prime minister/president etc then all of a sudden hate them because of one decision that candidate made that the voter didn’t like.
I don’t know about others but I have observed that people, in general, take more notice when a bad thing happens than a good one. This extends throughout life, not just in politics. For example, a child that gets in trouble at school for the first time. He/she could be a straight A+ student but the parents doesn’t say anything about his/her grade but the minute that that child gets in trouble & the parents are called in to school, wow it feels like you have done a major crime! They pull out sentences/phrases like ‘you have disgraced the family’, ‘aren’t you ashamed of yourself?’, ‘what will people think of you now?’, ‘what will people think of me (as a parent) now?’ and all because you stole an eraser.
I know not everyone is like that but it seems to me that a majority of us takes more notice when it is ‘bad’ rather than ‘good’.
Ok so back to politics (since this is what started the discussion). Take what is happening to the Australian government right now. When Kevin Rudd was Prime Minister, the people kicked him out because of a hard decision he has had to make. Then step in the likeable Julia Gillard. Everyone voted her to step in as Prime Minister. But now that she made a hard choice, they want her out because of that choice. And to add insult to injury, Kevin Rudd is now gaining back the support of the people that kicked him out in the first place.
I am not a political person by any means. And I know that in every country there is corruption but I think some of our world leaders are not doing too bad in running their respective countries. For me, I think of politics as like making decisions that affect my family. Not every member will necessarily agree with that decision but no matter how hard it gets, it’s still got to be made.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that I wish sometimes people wouldn’t be so quick to judge and condemn others simply because of a difficult decision that a person has to make.
If everyone was a little more forgiving and a lot less judgemental, the world would be a happier place.
Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings 🙂
